WELCOME TO THE 2008 SYNGE SUMMER SCHOOL

Seminars

All students choose one of three seminars as part of the school. Each seminar involves a discussion of a text, led by one of the School's speakers. The choices are:

 

1. The Plays of JM Synge (Professor Nicholas Grene)

Reading: The Shadow of the Glen, The Well of the Saints and The Playboy of the Western World. Any edition of Synge’s texts may be used.

2. Contemporary Irish Drama (1) (Dr Patrick Lonergan)

Martin McDonagh, The Cripple of Inishmaan (Methuen); Conor McPherson, The Weir (Nick Hern Books) – also available in Conor McPherson: Plays 2 (Nick Hern Books), Sebastian Barry, The Steward of Christendom (Methuen, also available in Sebastian Barry, Plays 1)

3. Contemporary Irish Drama (2): (Dr Emilie Pine)

Reading:

Christina Reid - Tea in a China Cup (Methuen, in Christina Reid, Plays 1)
Anne Devlin - After Easter (Faber, also published by Dramatists Play Service)
Marina Carr - The Mai (Gallery Press, also published in Carr Plays 1 by Faber)
